If You Ever Feel Old

If you ever feel old . . .

Here’s the Harris Creek Sitka Spruce on Vancouver Island, B.C. We stopped here en route to Port Renfrew where an obscure sign marks the path to its location.

The fence protects the tree’s base, but just barely. Blake is standing a scarce six feet from the tree. Yes, the trunk is really that massive.

And ancient—maybe a thousand years?

Makes a person rethink a few concepts.

Like longevity.

Eternity.

Patience.

Time. (And what we want to do with it.)

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.

He is patient with you,

not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

—2 Peter 3:8-9

  1. Cheryl, my dear friend, your posts always inspire and encourage me to fix my eyes on what is eternal and lasting. Thank you! In this hard season which you know my family is facing, the perspective of longevity is an emotional rollercoaster for me. Yet, “better is one day in His courts than a thousand elsewhere.” Love you!

    1. True longevity’s ahead, sweet Lara. Together. Meanwhile what grueling passages to traverse! I celebrate the strength God is giving you in yours. Thankful with you that He’s carrying you and is holding you close. Your heart is cupped in mine.
