Grass Thoughts first appeared in the recently published Summer 2020 edition of God and Nature Magazine. A publication of the American Scientific Affiliation, the magazine dedicated the issue to perspectives on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
I hope you’ll put your feet up and read the whole thing. As you do, your understanding of the virus may stretch. Your your chosen response to it may shift.
You may even see God at work in new ways.
Or not.
Regardless, I hope you’ll consider this an opportunity to hear Christ-followers from the scientific community around the world as they grapple with the implications of a bug that’s affecting us all.

Another lovely post for sharing your gifts and bringing honor to the Lord and His creation. I really like the version of Psalm 23:2-3 that you used. I was about 7 when we memorized The 23rd Psalm in Sunday school. Given that I was strong willed as well as being the youngest of four with two parents and four grandparents, my feathers got ruffled at the thought of the Lord “making” me do something even if it was to lie down in green pastures. Someone was always telling me what to do and God was going to do that too? I hate to admit just how old I was before I realized that the sense of make was not to force but for the purpose of, that blessings and rest were in store for those who followed the Good Shepherd.

What a good illustration in your little 7 year-old self of what we confused people can carry with us: the notion that our God wants to control us, to take from us the “freedom” to do things our own way rather than his. But isn’t human nature’s sole goal to oppose God’s sovereignty? Instead, as you say, he showers us with the freedom to follow him, the Way to do so through Jesus, and all the blessings and peace and Holy Spirit guidance that accompany that walk. Aren’t we so rich in him, beyond our wildest dreams?
