When I Write

Community: you need it. As do I. And for those of us whose work is often solitary, connecting with others becomes all the more crucial to well-being of body, mind, and soul.

I know that, though I don’t join gatherings much. I live in the country, far from family. Take pictures in unpeopled places. Write a lot—alone.

So when author, blogger, and essayist Charity Singleton Craig asked if I’d join a handful of fellow Redbud Writers Guild authors to share thoughts about our writing lives, my yes was immediate.

I’ve grown to love this community of women. Their words have blessed me, and I trust they’ll do the same for you. Whether you jot lines on greeting cards, compose historical epics, or write anything in between, I invite you to feast on the insights they share below.

This way?

.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.”

—Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

.

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.”

—Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG

.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
    do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
    and he will show you which path to take.”

—Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

.

Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].

—Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP

  1. Cheryl, I follow Prasanta and Charity both on social media (I met them in 2018 at the Festival of Faith & Writing). What a great community, indeed. I love this small world of online writing.
    And? your photos are spectacular.

    PS I’m on the chapter in Sugar Birds where Aggie has just dug herself a hide out under a log….complete with cottonwood “padding.” Really enjoying this story!

    1. Well, I’ll be. Aren’t they the best? I’m so glad you reached out, Jody. How good to encircle you in the arms of this beautiful writing family.
      A hollowed out cedar (and cozy nest site) in our woods and inspired me to situate Aggie in a similar hideout:).
